Privacy Policy
This policy explains what personal information SOKS & JOKS collects, how we use it, and the rights you have over it under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the Irish Data Protection Act 2018.
Who we are
SOKS & JOKS is the data controller for the personal information collected through this site. You can contact us about anything in this policy — or to exercise any of the rights below — at info@soksandjoks.ie.
What we collect
We only collect the information we genuinely need to run the shop:
- Order details: your name, delivery and billing address, email address, phone number (if provided) and the items you ordered.
- Payment information: handled directly by Shopify Payments and the relevant card networks. We never see or store your full card number or CVV.
- Account details (if you create one): your email address and a securely hashed password.
- Browsing data: pages viewed, items added to cart, approximate location and device info, collected through cookies and similar technologies. See our Cookie Policy for the detail.
- Marketing preferences: if you opt in to our newsletter, we keep your email address and the date you subscribed.
- Customer service correspondence: any emails you send us and our replies, so we can pick up the thread later.
Why we use it — and our legal basis
- To fulfil your order — processing payment, packing, shipping and dealing with returns. Legal basis: performance of a contract.
- To meet our legal obligations — keeping tax and accounting records as required by Irish law. Legal basis: legal obligation.
- To improve the site and our products — understanding which pages and products perform well. Legal basis: legitimate interest.
- To send marketing emails — only if you’ve opted in, and you can unsubscribe at any time. Legal basis: consent.
- To prevent fraud and abuse — spotting suspicious orders or repeated chargebacks. Legal basis: legitimate interest.
Who we share it with
We never sell your data. We share it only with the partners who help us run the shop, under written data-processing agreements:
- Shopify — our ecommerce platform, hosts the site and processes payments.
- Shipping carriers — the courier delivering your parcel needs your name, address and (sometimes) phone or email for delivery notifications.
- Email and analytics tools — for newsletters and to understand site usage. Currently this is limited to Shopify’s built-in tools.
- Professional advisors — our accountant, where details appear on invoices.
- Authorities — where we’re legally required to disclose information.
Some of these providers may process data outside the EEA. Where that happens, we rely on the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses or an adequacy decision to keep your data protected.
How long we keep it
Order and invoice information is kept for seven years to meet Irish tax record-keeping rules. Marketing data is kept until you unsubscribe. Customer service emails are kept for up to two years. Cookie data is kept for the periods set out in our Cookie Policy.
Your rights
Under GDPR you have the right to:
- Ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Have inaccurate or incomplete data corrected.
- Ask us to delete data we no longer need (subject to our legal record-keeping duties).
- Object to, or restrict, certain processing — including direct marketing.
- Receive your data in a portable format and have it transferred to another provider.
- Withdraw consent at any time where consent is the basis we’re relying on.
To exercise any of these, email info@soksandjoks.ie. We’ll respond within one month.
Complaints
If you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled your data, please tell us first and we’ll do our best to resolve it. You also have the right to complain to the Data Protection Commission — details at www.dataprotection.ie.
Children
Our products are aimed at adults and we don’t knowingly collect data from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we’ll delete it.
Updates to this policy
If we change how we use your data, we’ll update this page and, where the change is significant, let you know by email or a notice on the site.
